A quick note for those who work for small nonprofits, or know someone who does, perhaps ideas below can help with short-term fundraising challenges.
Fundraising and generating the revenue you need to keep your organization afloat, or your programs running, in the midst of Covid-19 is a huge challenge.
In this new day of fundraising, MAKE SURE you are researching new Foundation sources for grants. Many new sources and grant opportunities – that did not exist weeks ago – are popping up daily, and particularly at the community level, as foundations and other funding sources look to their backyards where need is greatest.
Just a sampling of new grant opportunities include:
Geo-focused:
New York City: https://www.nycommunitytrust.org/covid19/#nonprofits
Chicago: http://app.smarterselect.com/programs/65743-Community-Programs-Accelerator-At-The-University-Of-Chicago and https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf7YtOABWNwzj-GP4Rfo4Tyxf3sL96Wd2F5tlQ4aWnH9jPeTA/viewform
Iowa: https://www.deltadentalia.com/foundation/grants/covid19/
Oregon: https://oregoncf.org/grants-and-scholarships/grants/oregon-community-recovery-grants/
Albuquerque, NM: https://albuquerquefoundation.org/emergency-action-fund.aspx
Mission-focused:
Hunger issues: https://www.nokidhungry.org/coronavirus-grant-request
For the LGBTQ+ community: https://www.teganandsarafoundation.org/communitygrants (note April 6 deadline)
For animal-welfare organizations: https://www.aspca.org/about-us/press-releases/aspca-commits-5-million-covid-19-relief-recovery-initiative-help-animal
And this is just a tiny sampling. Also be sure to check out aggregators like Candid who compile lists of funders focused on Covid-19.
Make sure researching new funding sources in your community and area of work is a regular weekly – maybe even 2/3x weekly – activity.
Wherever you are seeking new revenues, keep grinding.
Fundraising is hard, but if your work and organization is sound, it’s also a challenge that can most definitely be met.
